Presidency defends N94.5m voted for purchase of bulletproof tyres in the 2017 budget

Permanent Secretary of the State House, Jalal Arabi, pictured above, yesterday explained why the presidency voted N94.5 million for the purchase of bullet proof tyres and N604 million for sewage and electricity charges in State House in the 2017 budget.

Appearing before the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs to defend the state house 2017 budget, Arabi said the State House owes Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) N552 million and sewage charges of N52.8 million.

He said the N94.5 million is half of the money allocated for the purchase of bulletproof tyres in 2016 “A total sum of N94.5 million is proposed for the purchase of treated (bullet-proof) tyres for 2017 representing 50 percent of the actual sought for in 2016.

There is a proposal for the sum of N52.8 million in the 2017 budget. The Committee may wish to be informed that the bills received from Abuja Environment Protection Board (AEPB) for liquid waste disposal for the state House for 2016 is in figure sum of N15.6 million with outstanding liabilities of previous years standing at N37.5 million (totalling N52.8m).

This informed the provision of the same figure amount in the sum of N52.8 million in 2017. We have however, commenced negotiation with AEPB in order to arrive at mutually acceptable charges henceforth” he said

Gates warns the world to prepare for bio-terrorism

Bill

On Saturday, February 18, 2017, Bill Gates spoke at the Munich Security Conference in Germany where he said,

"It's time to redirect some of the money the world spends on weapons to prepare for a looming threat: terrorists with pathogens. He's warning that the threat of bio-terrorism is "right up there with nuclear war and climate change."

He says it's now necessary for the world to prepare for what he considers to be one of its largest existential threats: the next pandemic.

"Whether it occurs by a quirk of nature or at the hand of a terrorist, epidemiologists say a fast-moving airborne pathogen could kill more than 30 million people in less than a year. And they say there is a reasonable probability the world will experience such an outbreak in the next 10 to 15 years" he said.

The most recent pandemic was even more deadly than that, Gates pointed out. A flu outbreak that occurred naturally killed between 50 million and 100 million people in 1918.

Looks like Amber Rose is back with ex, Wiz Khalifa...photos of them kissing at a pre-grammy event

It looks like an old photo from when they were married, doesn't it? But no, this happened last night. Amber, who ended a 5-months romance with dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, was spotted locking lips with her ex-husband, Wiz Khlaifa, who she has always said is the love of her life. The two were spotted at a pre-Grammy gala last night before they headed to a concert where they seen making out.

Guess when two people love each other, they always find their way back to each other.

If the homes & hiding places of ex govt officials are raided across this country, I bet over $10 billion will be recovered' - Ali Baba

He wrote;

Why will the exchange rates not go up? Besides the consequences of trade imbalance, total dependence on oil revenues, failure to develop local industries, poor and untapped tourism sector, Niger Delta issues, poor states that only take but can't contribute to Federal Accounts... the other reason is corruption.
I was gisting with a very wealthy Nigerian at a birthday party in 2012 and he predicted that dollar will rise to N550. I had a good laugh. He said "shey o fe bet ni? I told Alhaji too, he was arguing with me." You can imagine how I felt when I heard dollar was at N498. I place a call to him. How did you know this would happen back then? He said the first reason is this BVN and uniform banking numbers. Many Nigerians do a lot of crazy things to survive. Most of them illegal. So when the elections drew near, he knew, many people will want to move cash around, buy loyalty, pay for electioneering. With all the extra monitoring of accounts and owners of same. So what is the solution? Dollar. Ok lets say the SouthWest chairman (just as example oooo) says he wants 40m, how do you give him that amount of money? Can't be The naira. Dollar to the rescue. Kickbacks on contracts, bribes and diverted funds can only be moved around in dollar currency. Judges, election officials, political god father return on investment... none of these transactions can be documented through banking transactions. And as the scarcity was driving up the rates, the TSA dealt a blow to government organizations that were earning in dollars. So there you have it. If the homes and hiding places of ex government officials are raided across this country, I bet over 10 billion dollars will be recovered. Easy. Then there are those who get official rates, sell, make a good margin and allow others to do the same, then wait for the next allocation. Nigeria has a long journey. But you know shebi I am an ordinary comedian, what do I know sef!

Photos: 12-year-old girl & her aunt tortured by elders in Akwa Ibom over allegations of witchcraft

A 44-year-old woman, Ms. Mercy Ekwere from Edo Esit Eket escaped death on Monday, February 6th, after police dispersed witch-hunters who cordoned her, tied her hands and legs, then tortured her with sticks and machetes to a state of coma.

Her ordeal began after her 12-year-old niece was dragged to the town hall and underwent questioning and torture over allegations of witchcraft as a result of the death of a 5-year old child.

After a lengthy torture, the twelve years old girl was forced to tell the witch-hunters that her aunt, Ms. Ekwere, took the deceased child to the coven and strangled her to death.

Ms. Ekwere who is married to a man in a small community in the main Eket town, Akwa Ibom was lured by two emissaries who visited her in the early morning of Monday to inform her that the village head was looking for her with matters related to family disputes.

Ms. Ekwere said that as she arrived the scene, she was hurled with insults and abuses by a mammoth crowd and was not given a chance to say anything, only for a mob to descend on her mercilessly with any available weapon in their hands.

"I was shocked to see a big crowd who started calling me uncanny names, spat and threw stones at me. They did not allow me to say anything. A group of young men with sticks and rod gathered around me and began to hit me… I begged them to stop but my plea fell on deaf ears," Ms Ekere narrated.

"They're asking me different questions. ‘Why did you kill that small child?' ‘Who're your colleagues in the coven?' How many people have you tied in the witch coven?' They brought the corpse of a little child and place on my body and asked me to resurrect her. They put the dead child in a small open container, bathed and gave me the water to drink. Meaning that, if I was responsible for the child's death, I would also die soon.

"In spite of that, they continued to beat me. A man came with a big stick and hit my head, the whole place became dark and I fainted. Policemen, invited by my brother Emmanuel Ekwere, to rescue his child who was making the false confession came and woke me up. I did not see those who were beating me again. I got a bike and returned to my husband, but he told me to leave his house as he has no room for witches..." she added.

When she returned to her husband, she was not allowed entrance to the house. Her five years old son from her late ex-husband was also asked to join her. But the man kept the eleven-month-old child which is the only child that they both have together.

Ms. Ekwere said since she did not have a place to sleep, she went and slept in a small local market with open shades. To her chagrin, three men who were among those who wanted to kill her came there on a motorbike with matches and sticks.

On spotting them, she ran into a bush with her son and made her way to the CRARN Children Centre in Ikot Afaha, Eket, where she has been given a temporary refuge as there's no sanctuary in Nigeria for such older people stigmatized as witches or brutalized and rendered homeless in the name of witchcraft
